BRAIN FRAME

BRAIN FRAME FOREVER: In and Around our Grand Finale from Lyra Hill on Vimeo.

Brain Frame, Chicago's legendary underground comix-weirdo-performance happening, celebrated the end with a Grand Finale on its 3rd anniversary, August 9th, 2014. Seven performative comics readings by a bevy of local talents unfolded on the historic stage at Thalia Hall, surrounded by interactive installations in opera boxes; musical performances from Tyson Torstensen, Flux Bikes, and DJ Pluto; cheers and human pyramids by the Spirit Team (interns Emma Rand, Brad Rohloff, and Lillie West); and the release of the Brain Frame Yearbook.
This video captures the entire event and the buoyant spirit of the extended Brain Frame family. Thank you to all our supporters over the years, everyone who worked an event, collaborated on a poster, or just showed up to party. Never forget! Brain Frame Forever!
Video by Burton Bilharz [burtonbilharz.com] with additional performance footage thanks to Cooper Collier, Cody Wallace, and Jack Wensel.

Flux Bikes was honored to be a part of the 'Kid Crafternoon' series at the Farrar General Store in Farrar, MO on October 25th 2015.

We explored spooky 'hidden' sounds inside objects from around the store, just in time for Halloween!  There was also pumpkin carving and hot dogs and apple cider for everyone.

DUB WARS w/ ABSRACT BLACK

Jayve Montgomery (Abstract Black) caught Flux Bikes warming up for the CPD Solar Powered Sounds workshop at Chatham Park last September 2013. This track DUB WARS was used on FLUX BIKES latest release 'PROTOTYPE' from Catholic Tapes.

Flux Bikes was proud to present a 'solar powered sound' workshop for youth in the Chicago Park District in September 2013.  Rob rode the rig to a dozen city parks in order to make sustainable beats, give a workshop on the science of sound, and discuss renewable energy with middle school students.  This program was partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency and co-presented by Inferno Mobile Recording Studio, a park district program.

TRAYSH ISLAND to CHICAGO

TRAYSH ISLAND

Traysh Island Burning Mang II was held at 8550 OHIO. Artists in residency, musians, and festival goers converged on a farm in Southeastern Ohio for the weekend of August 1st and 2nd.  I got a ride there with my bike and music gear.

Flux Bikes played in the forest with the solar powered rig.  You can listen here.

Then it was off through the hills of Ohio on a 450 mile ride back to Chicago.

The goal was to link up as many rail-to-trails as possible.  My route went from Chesterhill to Athens, OH.  Following old US 50 and taking side roads when possible led me to Chillicothe, OH where I jumped on the Tri-County Triangle.  This 30 mile trail stretches to Washington Court House, OH where I followed Old US 35 to connect to the Miami Valley Bikeways, a network of over 250 miles of old railbeds converted into paved trails.

An old train station in Xenia, OH serves as a hub for this awesome regional network.

I took the Xenia-Jameston Connector, the Creekside Trail, and the Wolf Creek trail outside of Dayton, OH.  Then I pedaled on US 40 into Richmond, IN.

The Cardinal Greenway starts in Richmond and goes about 60 miles to Marion, IN.  Near the beginning of the trail in Richmond, you can visit the old Gennet Records and Starr Piano factories along the Whitewater River.

From Marion, I zig-zagged my way across the rest of Indiana, linking up the Nickel Plate Trail and the North Judson Trail, and spending time on numerous small county roads.  There were many birds and insects, and the prairie flowers were in bloom.
